Reflections on a semester

Reflections on a Semester
1. What did you learn about photography that you did not know before?
I learned many things but some of the greatest and most useful are an entry level understanding of photoshop, how to take and develop photos in the dark room and how to take different types of photographs. Photoshop was always a jumble of confusing words and functions before this class, now I can maneuver around it fairly well. I had never developed photos in a dark room before this semester, it always seemed like something a stalker did so they wouldn't have to take them to a store. Now i love doing it and can't wait till I can have my own dark room to work on photos of my own. Also, I learned that there are tons of different photographs you can take, making the photo a winner or a loser. I love that now whenever i go to take a  photograph I think of what it is going to tun out as and what category it falls under.

2. What did you learn about yourself this semester?
I learned that I'm my own person and that I can express myself through photography very well. I learned that I can never let someone put me or my art down because everybody has a different opinion. I learned that photography is a deep passion of mine and it will continue to be an important part of my life.

3. What do you wish we had done that we did not?
I wish that we had worked with film more. I love working with film, I don't have much experience with it except when I was young and a few weeks this semester. Film is defientely going to be a huge part of my photography future. I also wish we could have had an assignment to photograph animals and nature. I love animals and nature is a huge part of that, be it have our household pet of a wild animal we saw while hunting or even a trip to the zoo where we took photos of penguins on their stomachs. Overall the projects we did I really enjoyed and am happy with what I did.

4. What was your struggle?
I deffinetly struggled at first with Photoshop but i got into the hang of it fairly quickly. I also struggled with the alphabet because it was hard to find every letter with out changing the shape of soemthing, but alas I did it. I felt like I struggled with the Silhouette project just because I didn't know exactly how to capture it perfectly. Lighting was a big struggle because its really something you have to play around with to get just perfect. I also struggled a tad with the motion blur, it was not an easy assignment but also not a super difficult one. I tried my best to get some blur some not, the pan was semi difficult and didn't get much of them but I did however get plenty of the other type.

5. What did you conquer?
I feel like I conquered many of my photography fears through this course because it taught me to be me and that the photography will fall into place through hard work and dedication. Photography has always been a big part of my life but I've never known exactly what type of photography was for me. That fear has been conquered because I know the types of things I'm interested in now and I know I can do them to the best of my abilities.

DIRECT SIDE LIGHT

SILHOUETTE

I observed that light is a very fun thing to mess around with, setting it in different positions and trying to get just the right shadow. The silhouettes were a little harder for me then the direct side light, but I researched them and I think I understood better after that. I learned that though not the easiest photos to take they are very fun to take and learn about.
